Steps are numbered for you. Write what the cook does, in the order they do it, and let the numbering follow whatever you rearrange.
Add steps
- Type into the first step.
- Press + Add step for the next one.
Enter inside a step starts a new line within that step rather than a new step, because a step sometimes needs a second sentence on its own line.
What makes a step usable
- One action per step. Two verbs in one step is where people lose their place.
- Put the doneness cue in the step, not just the time: “until the edges are set, about 3 minutes”.
- Repeat the quantity if it prevents a trip back to the ingredients — “add the 200g flour”.
Group steps into stages
Press + Add instruction group to start a named stage, for example Prepare the chicken. Each group numbers its own steps, so a stage is readable on its own.
As with ingredients, the name is optional and one unnamed group is the right shape for a straightforward recipe.
Photos on a step
Any step can carry its own photo — useful for a shaping or folding step that words struggle with.
