A recipe can have a main photo — the finished dish — that appears at the top of the recipe page and on the card in your recipe index. Photos are recommended, especially on a public blog, for presentation, search and sharing, but you can save a draft and publish without one. You can upload a photo, or point at a photo that is already online.
Upload a photo
- Open the recipe in the editor.
- In the photo area under the title, press Upload photo.
- Pick a file. The button counts up while it uploads, then the photo appears in place.
Uploaded photos are hosted by Savorible. You do not need an image host, a plugin, or a resizing step.
Formats and size
- Formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF.
- Maximum size: 20 MB per image.
Photos straight off a phone are usually fine. If yours is refused, see image upload problems.
Use a photo that is already online
The photo area also takes a link. Paste an https:// image URL into the field, or drag an image link onto the area and drop it. Only http:// and https:// addresses are accepted.
A linked photo lives wherever you linked it from, so if that page moves or deletes the image, your recipe loses it. Uploading is the durable choice.
Replace or remove a photo
Press Replace photo to swap it, or Remove photo to clear it. A recipe with no photo simply has no photo — the page closes up rather than showing a placeholder.
What to shoot
One honest photo of the finished dish in daylight does more than five styled ones. For the photography rather than the buttons, the Savorible blog has a guide: How to Take Food Photos for Your Blog.
