Edit a published recipe

Change a live recipe with Update recipe, and understand which edits are safe for links that already exist.

A published recipe is edited in exactly the same editor. The only difference is the button: it says Update recipe instead of Publish recipe.

Make a change

  1. Open the recipe from Edit posts.
  2. Edit anything on the page.
  3. Press Update recipe.

The change is live immediately. The recipe keeps its original publication date, so fixing a typo does not make an old recipe look new.

Changing the web address

The web address is part of the recipe’s URL. Change it and the old URL stops working — there is no redirect from the old address to the new one.

That matters for a recipe you have already shared. Anything pointing at the old address breaks: links people saved, links from other sites, and links in search results until they are recrawled.

Do not walk away mid-edit

Nothing is saved while you type. If you close the tab with unsaved changes to a published recipe, the live recipe is untouched — but your edits are gone. Press Update recipe before you leave.
